Astrological Gemstones

Just as each particular zodiac sign has its inherent colors and

planets so do they have their own gemstones. As zodiac signs overlap

months, the traditional birthstones don't exactly apply. Here is a

listing of each zodiac sign's gemstone and the qualities that each

imbues the wearer with:

Aries: Red Coral is the traditional gemstone for those born between

March 20th and April 21st. Red coral is said to enhance the wearer's

courage and strength. Coral is also thought to increase one's

happiness and to ward off diseases of the 'hot' variety, such as

fevers and various poxes. Red coral should be worn in a gold or silver

setting on the fourth finger of the right hand.

Taurus: Those born between April 21st and May 20th are blessed with

the gemstone of diamond. Wearing diamonds is said to evince one's high

social ranking and enhances one's abundance of material things.

Diamonds are also thought to increase the wearer's fidelity and are

symbols of devotion and commitment. Diamonds should be worn in a gold

or platinum setting on the fourth finger of the left hand.

Gemini: Emerald is the zodiac stone for those born between May 21st

and June 21st. Wearing emeralds is said to increase one's vision and

ocular health. Emerald should be worn on the middle finger of the

right hand in a setting of gold. Wearing emeralds is said to block

spells cast against the wearer and also to increase one's ability to

see into the future.

Cancer or Moon children: Those born between June 22nd and July 21st

are said to be Moon children and are therefore blessed with the

moonstone as their zodiac stone. Moonstones are cool and feminine and

wearing them has a calming effect. Moonstones should be set in silver

and worn on the left hand. Although we don't recommend it, sleeping

with a moonstone in one's mouth was once believed to give the user

prophetic dreams.

Leo: If your birthday is between July 22nd and August 22nd you are a

Leo whose zodiac gemstone is amber. Although not a stone in the truest

sense of the word, amber is a joy to wear and is said to protect the

wearer from thievery and deception. Amber is softer than other gems

and therefore is not recommended for rings but rather should be worn

against one's body as a pendant.

Virgo: Those born between August 22nd and September 21st are blessed

with jade as their zodiac stone. Considered sacred in the Orient, jade

is said to increase one's longevity and vitality. Jade makes beautiful

bracelets and wearing them is thought to benefit gamblers, especially

those that like to play the horse races.

Libra: When you are born between September 22nd and October 21st your

zodiac stone is quartz crystal. Esoteric thought holds that wearing

quartz helps the wearer 'tune in' to the cosmos rather like quartz

crystals are used to send and receive radio signals. Quartz polishes

up to a stunning sparkle and can be worn as a pendant or lovely

dangling earrings as well as rings and bracelet charms.

Scorpio: People born between October 22nd and November 21st share

aquamarine as their zodiac stone. The pale, icy blue stone is said to

protect sailors at sea. Aquamarine is used in Vedic healing to treat

maladies of the head and neck and is thought to protect the wearer

from toothaches. Aquamarine makes beautiful ring stones that should be

set in silver and worn on the left hand.

Sagittarius: Those born between November 22nd and December 21st have

citrine as their zodiac stone. Wearing citrine is said to bring the

wearer increased happiness and joy. Citrine is also known as the

'merchant's stone' and lore has it that hiding a citrine gem in a safe

place will cause one's finances to soar. Wear citrine as a ring set in

gold on the right hand.

Capricorn: Obsidian is the stone shared by those born between December

22nd and January 21st. Actually volcanic glass, obsidian is said to

reflect the self and wearing it will cause one to dream of ways to

improve themselves. Obsidian makes an exceptionally lovely pendant and

when worn close to the body is said to protect the intestines and

private parts.

Aquarius: Those born between January 22nd and February 21st have the

zodiac stone of garnet. While not as costly as the ruby, garnets shine

as fiercely and are said to protect the wearer's heart when worn as a

pendant. Paler shades of garnet are thought to treat nervous problems,

bringing the wearer serenity and a sense of calm.

Pisces: Those born between February 22nd and March 21st share amethyst

as their zodiac stone. The name amethyst comes from the Greek meaning

'not drunk' and is said to protect the wearer from overindulgence.

Amethyst makes especially beautiful earrings that flash various shades

of purple when the light catches them.
